Książka jest pierwszą całościową i wszechstronną próbą prezentacji skomplikowanych problemów relacji polsko-białoruskich osadzonych w szerokim kontekście międzynarodowym. Przemiany polityczne i tranzycja ustrojowa w Europie Środkowej i Wschodniej po 1989 roku zapoczątkowały nawiązywanie przez Polskę stosunków dyplomatycznych z państwami byłego bloku wschodniego, ale także z tymi, które w wyniku rozpadu ZSRS odzyskały suwerenność. W tej grupie zagadnień relacje z Białorusią nie wysuwały się na pierwszy plan, a ich kolejne fazy charakteryzowały się na przemian próbami dialogu, przeplatanymi okresami regresu i wzajemnej podejrzliwości. Najbardziej dramatyczny był okres od 2020 do 2023 roku, kiedy Białoruś z inspiracji Rosji wywołała kryzys migracyjny na granicy z Polską, a następnie zaangażowała się w wojnę Kremla przeciwko Ukrainie.

The Strategic Challenges of the Eastern Neighbourhood. The Republic of Poland and the Republic of Belarus in the Years 1991–2022

The book is the first comprehensive attempt to present complex problems in the Polish-Belarusian relations embedded in a broad international context. Political changes and the transition in Central and Eastern Europe after 1989 initiated the establishment of diplomatic relations with the countries of the former Eastern bloc as well as with those which regained independence after the fall of the Soviet Union. In this group of issues, the relations with Belarus did not come to the forefront, and their subsequent phases were characterized by alternating attempts at dialogue, interspersed with periods of regression and mutual suspicion. The most dramatic period was from 2020 to 2023, when Belarus, inspired by Russia, caused a migration crisis on the border with Poland, and then became involved in the Kremlin war against Ukraine.
